PRITCHARD LOOKING FORWARD TO ROUND FOUR AND HIS HOME RALLY

Jason Pritchard is hoping to build on his impressive victories in round one and round two of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship and make amends for his early exit in Carlisle and the previous round, as round four and the Severn Valley stages takes place this weekend (Saturday 4th June).

Based at the Builth Wells Showground, round four will offer over 40 miles of action through some of the most challenging stages in Wales, made famous by the final round of the World Rally Championship, Wales Rally GB in recent years.

Pritchard and co-driver Phil Clarke had kick started their season in style with victory in the opening two rounds before sliding off the road and out of the rally in round three:

“Not being able to finish round three in Carlisle was a real blow, especially after finishing first in the previous two rounds. However, I’ve been out to the Isle of Man since Carlisle and finished top of the pile out there, so that’s what I’ll be taking with me into round four. “I can’t afford for another non-finish on the Seven Valley stages so I’ll be aiming for a clean but quick run, easier said than done but I’ll be concentrating from the moment we get going on Saturday.”

The 27-year-old from Builth Wells is understandably looking forward to competing in what is seen as his home rally:

”I’m always excited about competing in the British Historic Rally Championship as all the stages are tough and a real challenge. However with the Severn Valley stages starting in my home town and directly across from my parents’ Toyota dealership on the Royal Welsh Show ground in Builth Wells, it does generate slightly more excitement and nerves! “After the start we go out to complete three stages before returning to the Show Ground for service. We then go into Radnor Forest, and even though this is my home rally, I’ve only ever competed the Forest stages once before and that was on the Wales Rally GB in 2011. “I’m really looking forward to testing myself again over these stages and can’t wait to get going and back in the car along with Phil, who has been excellent as always this season.”

Pritchard is testing the MK2 today (Thursday 2nd June) and hopes some extra time behind the wheel we benefit his race on Saturday:

“The last time I competed was over in the Isle of Man and in the Ford Focus WRC on tarmac. The MK2 is very different to drive and this weekend’s stages will be over gravel and with these short sharp events you don’t really have time to play yourself in because you’ll find yourself too far behind your rivals to make up the time! “As always as I head into a rally, I would like to thank my sponsors for making it possible for me to get behind the wheel: North Road Garage Builth Wells, FCS Laser Mail and Pirelli.”

THREE IN ROW FOR PRITCHARD AS HISTORY IS MADE ON THE ISLE OF MAN

Jason Pritchard and Phil Clarke made history on the Isle of Man last Saturday (7th May) as they became the first crew to win the Manx National Rally three times in succession.

The Rally formed round two of the MSA Asphalt Rally Championship and the Ford Focus WRC duo led the 90-strong field from the word go to create history on the island.

The weekend was all about Pritchard and he didn’t fail to deliver under the pressure as he became the first man to win the event three years in a row. The impressive winning margin was two minutes and 51.3 seconds and the Welshman was understandably delighted to complete his hat-trick of victories:

“It was an incredible feeling when I crossed the finishing line to become the first person to win the Manx National Rally three times in a row. I can’t really come to terms with it, we’ve made history here and I’m so proud with what we’ve achieved. “10 years ago, I competed on my first Manx rally, unfortunately I retired on the second stage so to achieve this feat three times in a row is a dream come true, to win here just once is amazing, to now have done it three times in row – is unbelievable.”

This incredible achievement feat dawned on Pritchard as he closed in on the finish line:

“About half a mile from the finish of the final stage, I spotted my service crew who couldn’t hide their emotions, they were cheering me on slightly more on than usual! I flashed my lights to let them know everything was ok with the car – it was then when it started to hit home what we were going to achieve.”

Pritchard hadn’t been behind the wheel of his Focus WRC since the finish ramp at last year’s rally so it felt very alien behind the wheel – a lot different to his historic car he’s used to driving. The 27-year-old had failed to finish his previous rally in Carlisle so a good clean start was crucial out in the Isle of Man:

“Failing to finish in Carlisle was on my mind when we started the rally, I was really keen to get going but also make sure we stayed on the road. It didn’t take long to get back into the swing of things and the car felt amazing right from the start.”

Pritchard started confidently and after the first five stages on the Friday evening he had managed to build up a lead of 42.7 seconds over his nearest rival. However, things could have been slightly different due to a stray sheep that nearly ended the hat-trick dream:

“We were very lucky on the final Friday evening stage, flat out in 6th gear, I took a corner at full pace and as I did, a stray sheep jumped from the bank onto the road and I didn’t miss it by much – after looking back at the in-car video, I didn’t realise how close it was.”

Pritchard knew there was still lots to be done on the Saturday if he was going to win the rally for three times in a row and make history along the way:

“We checked the weather on Saturday morning and it was mixed, a dry start but with heavy rain predicted for the afternoon. We started off on dry tyres but the predicted rain arrived on the second stage and it became very slippy on the dry tyres so I had to hold back and make sure we kept the car on the road.”

Despite a small scare with the clutch before the second run up Tholt-y-Will, Pritchard and Clarke, his co-driver, managed another clean run over the final two stages to end up winner for the third time in a row by a winning time of just under three minutes.

Pritchard was delighted with the achievement but wanted to make sure that the efforts of his co-driver and team, didn’t go unnoticed:

“There are two of us in the car and without Phil calling the notes, there’s no way I could have won this rally once, let alone three times in a row. It’s amazing how he gets the information to me so clearly and quickly, he is a special talent and I trust him 100% when I’m sitting behind the wheel. “We always have great fun together and I can’t thank him enough for all his help and support. Every time we finish a stage, we want to go out and do it all over again!”

Pritchard also went on to thank his support team and family:

“Thanks to my sponsors North Road Garage Builth Wells, FCS Laser Mail, Pirelli and P&R Benn. This achievement wouldn’t be possible without their help and also the fantastic support I get from my amazing service crew: Christian and Steve. As always they were on the ball from the word go and the effort they put into each rally is second to none. “I also want to thank my parents for giving me such a wonderful opportunity to compete in rallying and being able to achieve history is my way of thanking them for all that they do for me. “Also I would like to thank Paul at P&R Benn for getting the car ready, making sure it was 100% and coming over on the Saturday to keep an eye on everything!”

PRITCHARD HEADS TO CARLISLE AND ROUND THREE IN FINE FORM

Jason Pritchard is hoping to follow up on his impressive victories in round one and round two of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship as round three of the competition heads to Carlisle this Saturday (30th April).

The Pirelli Carlisle Rally will host the third round of the British Historic Rally Championship and offers drivers the challenge of four special stages of 45 miles – making use of the best stages from the famous Kielder Forest.

Pritchard and co-driver Phil Clarke have kick started their season in style with victory in the opening round and produced another solid round of rallying to make it two wins out of two during the second round of the championship in North Wales on Saturday 2nd April.

The 27-year-old from Builth Wells is understandably thrilled with the start but understands how important it is to keep his concentration ahead of this weekend:

“I’m delighted with the start we’ve made, the second round in North Wales was a tough rally and to finish ahead of some fantastic drivers and cars, was a brilliant feeling. “I’m going to try and replicate that feeling in Carlisle over the weekend but most importantly, I’ll be aiming to finish the rally so we can continue to build on the start”

Pritchard knows how testing the stages will be in Kielder and is preparing for another tough rally:

“Kielder has a fierce reputation, and not without good reason – the stages are always sharp and a real test for everyone involved. The stages tend to be rough so it’s very easy to damage the car but even easier to find one of the big ditches that line the stages – which is something I’ve fallen foul of in the past! “I will be starting as car 1 and will be first out on the road this year and I really can’t wait to get going. As mentioned, I’ve had some mixed fortune on these stages and last year I had to retire with clutch failure. “My aim for this weekend will be to ensure I finish and if I can pick up some decent championship points along the way, then I’ll be delighted.”

Pritchard’s shown he can handle the challenge of being up on the pace and his last two first place finishes is testament to not only his skill behind the wheel but also his ability to deliver under pressure:

“I know that the pace at the front will be hot on Saturday, so even getting good Championship points will be hard but like the previous rounds, I will try and use my head and drive at a fast but sensible pace. “Kielder has a tendency to bite and even if you go slightly off line and slip into one of the ditches, you have no chance of getting the car out. It really is one of the toughest rallies out there and I can’t wait to tackle the stages on Saturday”.

As always, Pritchard spoke highly of the his support team and sponsors which allow him to take part in the Championship:

“I can’t thank the team enough that help me at each rally, they really are the unsung heroes. Also a big thank you to my sponsors who are a huge help: North Road Garage Builth Wells, FCS Laser Mail, Pirelli and Viking Motorsport. “Also, a big thank you to everyone who will be helping over the weekend: all the marshals, supporters and the organisers for what I know will be a fantastic event.”

PRITCHARD VICTORIOUS IN NORTH WALES TO MAKE IT TWO IN A ROW

Jason Pritchard followed up his impressive victory in round one of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship with another outstanding performance to take top spot in the second round of the championship in Dolgellau, North Wales this Saturday (2nd April).

Pritchard and co-driver Phil Clarke kick started their season in style with victory in the opening round and produced another solid round of rallying to make it two in a row.

The 27-year-old from Builth Wells was understandably thrilled to win again and spoke highly of the car, his co-driver and was over the moon to join an elite list of names on the famous trophy:

“I’m delighted with finishing top of the pile this weekend, it was a tough rally and to finish ahead of some fantastic drivers and cars, is a brilliant feeling. “It was another perfect day for me and like the last round, we had no problems with the car and there wasn’t a mark on it at the end, I have to thank Viking Motorsport for getting the car ready for me, it’s such a pleasure to drive. “Phil Clarke was superb and produced another faultless job co driving, having him next to me in the car, allows me the confidence to achieve these wonderful results.”

Like the first round, competitors woke to heavy rain on the Saturday morning and this impacted Pritchard’s approach to the rally:

“Once we woke up and saw the weather, we knew we were in for another wet day of rallying. This was felt as soon as the first stage when we had a small scare, the car went side wards as we broke on the very first corner of the stage. “After this, I knew exactly how I had to drive as the last thing I wanted to do was put the car off and ultimately not finish the rally. It was a patient approach and we were delighted to find out that we were up on our closest Historic rival after the first stage.”

Pritchard continued this form into stages 2 and 3. Stage 3 offered drivers the longest challenge of the day, with 12 miles of high speed action. Pritchard, the defending British Historic Rally champion, managed to take more time off his nearest rivals before heading back to service. Over the next two stages, Pritchard continued to push the pace and after stage 5, the Welshman found himself 8 seconds ahead of his nearest rival:

“I pushed hard over stages 4 and 5 and was delighted but not complacent going into the final stage to hear of the lead. Phil asked me what I wanted to do over stage 6, my mind-set was to ‘have a go’ but I didn’t want to do anything that would impact my Championship chances. “We had a scare when we thought we might have had a puncture after the first mile on the last stage, but we put this behind us and pushed hard over the final miles. The puncture didn’t materialise and we put in a really quick time over the last stage, I felt really good behind the wheel and we ended up winning the rally by 21 seconds.”

Victory in round two sees Pritchard in a strong position but something he won’t take for granted as he looks ahead to round 3:

“I know how quickly it can all change so I’ll be working just as hard in the next round. I have to thank the team that were there helping me on the rally but also everyone else involved before we even started on Saturday. Thank you to my sponsors who are a huge help: North Road Garage Builth Wells, FCS Laser Mail, Pirelli and Viking Motorsport. “Also, a big thank you to the unsung heroes of the weekend: all the marshals who stood out in the rain for us again and the organisers for giving us a fantastic event.”

PRITCHARD CONFIDENTLY HEADS INTO ROUND TWO AFTER FIRST ROUND WIN

Jason Pritchard heads to the next round of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship in high spirits after an outstanding performance and victory in the first round on the Red Kite Historic Stages last month (Sunday 21st February).

Pritchard and co-driver Phil Clarke kick started their season in style with victory in the opening round. The ice and snow of the 2015 Red Kite was replaced by strong winds, rain and thick fog to deliver another tough start to the season but Pritchard in his Ford Escort Mk2 took maximum points to open their title defence in an emphatic manner.

The competition’s second stage will be held in Dolgellau, North Wales this Saturday (2nd April) and the 27-year-old from Builth Wells is aiming to build on his first place finish in round one, as he competes in North Wales for the first time since 2011.

Rally North Wales is a hugely popular event in the motorsport diary and this year will be no different – over 130 cars will take to the forests on Saturday and Pritchard can’t wait:

“The last time I competed in North Wales was in the World Rally event back in 2011 in the Wales Rally GB. I’m not familiar with these stages as some of my fellow competitors will be, but from the safety DVD we are sent, the roads look in excellent condition and I’m raring to go!”

Pritchard was successful over the 45 stage miles over the Red Kite Stages in the first round and is aiming to go close again as the competition heads to North Wales:

“After a perfect start to the year and victory in the first round, I’ll be aiming to get another good score this Saturday and really start the Championship well, but as always with the competition and pace at the front is getting better each year, this is easier said than done!”

Pritchard will be setting off from the Dolgellau at 9:00am on Saturday morning and heading out to complete the first few stages in the morning before returning for a quick service in Dolegellau and then heading back out for the final three frantic stages.

The aim is to be up there at the finish and Pritchard can’t wait to get going:

“I’m looking forward to getting back on these stages as it’s great to go back to different parts of the country and there are some classic stages for us to tackle in North Wales, it’s been a few weeks since the last event and that was the last time I sat in the car so I hope we can get into a good rhythm from the very first corner and set a fast pace from the start. “We had some terrible weather in round one so hopefully it’s not too bad this time round for all the marshals who do such a fantastic job and I’d like to thank my sponsors North Road Garage Builth Wells, Viking Motorsport, and Pirelli for their continued support”

“We had some terrible weather in round one so hopefully it’s not too bad this time round for all the marshals who do such a fantastic job and I’d like to thank my sponsors North Road Garage Builth Wells, Viking Motorsport, and Pirelli for their continued support.”

PRITCHARD VICTORIOUS IN BRITISH HISTORIC RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

Jason Pritchard is the new champion of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship.

The 27-year-old’s fourth place in the Isle of Man this weekend was more than enough to secure the points needed to clinch the title with a round to spare.

Pritchard can now add the Historic Rally Championship success on the island to his two victories in the National Rally (2014 and 2015).

The Welshman went into rounds six and seven over the weekend occupying top spot after his excellent victory on the Eypnt stages last time out. It was the first time on the island in his Historic Ford MK2 Escort and Pritchard was joined by co-driver Phil Clarke.

Emphatically, Pritchard took the title ahead of next weekend’s final round in Yorkshire and was understandably delighted as he spoke about his success on Sunday:

“I’m over the moon to be champion of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship, it’s a wonderful feeling and a real honour to finish top of the pile; especially when you look at the drivers competing, there’s some really talented drivers involved so I feel very privileged to have finished on top. “However, becoming champion would not have been possible without the excellent team I have around me. Phil was sensational again on the notes and he’s such a valuable person to have sitting next to me in the car, I can’t thank him enough for his input across the Championship. “The guys in service were absolutely superb, as usual, and kept the car going over the weekend. It was a long rally and they worked really hard from the moment we got started on the Thursday. They are a crucial part to the success I’ve achieved right from the very first round in February. “A special mention to my family, especially my Mum and Dad. They have been supportive throughout my whole career and I’m pleased that I can deliver a title to thank them, I certainly wouldn’t be in a position to do this without their continued support! “I would also like to thank my sponsors who have been fantastic all season and have helped me from round one until victory this weekend: North Road Garage Builth Wells, FCS Laser Mail, Brightwells Auctions, Viking Motorsport and Pirelli.”

There were two opportunities to score points over the weekend, and Pritchard was aware of how he needed to approach the rally. A clean performance was the main priority and he ensured he was at a good enough pace to pick up the valuable points needed to secure the Championship title:

“I knew that my rivals would be going flat out to try and pick up points, it was crucial to finish and a least score enough points to either win the Championship or put me in a strong position for next weekend’s final round. “Thursday evening went to plan and we had a very clean run, as we went into the Friday, I was getting more and more comfortable with every mile I completed in the car. It did feel very different to the usual World Rally car I use on these stages, especially with a 40-year-old suspension!”

Pritchard’s main rival had an incident on the Friday morning where he went off the road for several minutes, which ended up with him dropping down the Championship table.

However, the Welshman knows the small margins that can make a huge difference in rallying and his title attempt was nearly scuppered by a failed clutch:

“On the Friday night we had a really good run over the night stages and we were sitting in a position that meant the title would be ours if we didn’t drop any places. “We had no issues at all until the final three stages and then the clutch failed! Thankfully it happened towards the end of the stage and we only had four miles to make it into service. “I managed to get the car to service and the excellent team that included North Road Garage, Viking Motorsport and Martin Jones transmissions managed to change the clutch in 26 minutes and within our service time so we had no time penalties. “That was a reminder of how easily we could have been out of the rally completely and it certainly showed how fine the margins are between finishing the rally and having to withdraw.”

Pritchard showed fantastic composure across the final stages and at a pace that he felt comfortable with, he eventually finished the rally in fourth position and just 0.8 seconds off third place overall.

After a nervous wait, it was soon confirmed that the fourth place finish and the points secured was enough to clinch the Championship title.

The next and final round of Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship will be Rally Yorkshire and will based in Pickering over the 25th and 26thSeptember.

Pritchard won’t have time to enjoy the victory celebrations as he will be busy this week in getting the car ready for the start on Friday:

“I’m really looking forward to the final round, even with the Championship decided, I really wanted to be there and to compete in the rally and show my appreciation to the organisers of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship. “They do a fantastic job and it’s a brilliant Championship. I can’t wait to arrive as champion and with that in mind we can go up to Yorkshire and compete with no pressure and really enjoy the event.”

PRITCHARD HEADS OUT TO ISLE OF MAN IN FIRST HISTORIC OUTING ON ISLAND

Jason Pritchard is competing in the Isle of Man this weekend (17th – 19th September) as the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship heads out to the island for rounds six and seven of the Championship.

The Welshman hopes to continue occupying top spot after his excellent victory on the Eypnt stages last time out. Pritchard who has tasted success out in the Isle of Man on two occasions in the National Rally, will be hoping he can do the same when driving in his Historic Ford MK2 Escort for the first time on the island.

The 27-year-old from Builth Wells who will be joined by co-driver Phil Clarke is looking forward to a different test this time round, Pritchard last competed on these rally stages in 2010 in the British Rally Championship:

“I can’t wait to get back out to the Isle of Man to compete, it’s such a fantastic place to race and the conditions and crowds are always excellent. I’ve had some recent success out there in the National Rally and it’s going to feel very different competing with the Historic car for the first time on these stages. “It’s a long rally, with 180 stage miles and when you consider most championship rounds are just 45 miles, you can see the difference! It’s also a double scoring round, so I will need a good pace from the start and my overall aim is to finish both parts cleanly and with some good points on the board to try and hold onto top spot.”

There will be two opportunities to score points over the weekend, on the Friday at midday the first Championship points will be awarded and then the second points of the Championship will be awarded across the second half of the rally.

Pritchard knows how difficult it can be to compete on the Isle of Man and is hopeful that his experience on the island will put him in a strong position ahead of a very tricky few days of rallying:

“Competing in the Isle of Man is always difficult as the weather changes so frequently, so it automatically impacts your tyre choice across the weekend. I’ve been seeded car 1, which is a great honour but also brings with it an added pressure as the other crews will be waiting to see the tyres that we run with. “I’m really looking forward to the night stages as they always make the rally that little bit more exciting and gives you even more to think about! “The weekend will be a different challenge for me as I’m leading the championship and have a huge desire and drive to stay there. I’ll be approaching it like any other rally but need to remember that this is a very long event and I must drive with my head from start to finish.“

The next round of Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship will be Rally Yorkshire and will based in Pickering over the weekend of the 25th and 26th September.

PRITCHARD WINS IN EPYNT AND EDGES CLOSER TO BHRC TITLE

Jason and Eian Pritchard

Jason Pritchard was victorious over the Harry Flatters stages of the 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship (BHRC) last weekend and the 27-year-old is now occupying top spot in the Championship after five fantastic performances.

The Harry Flatters stages, based in Brecon offered a tough challenge for competitors as monsoon conditions swept across the famous Epynt Military Ground on Sunday, however Pritchard overcame the elements in style to gain victory in his MK2 Ford Escort.

Straight from the start the battle for the historic honours was going to be between Pritchard and Melvyn Evans and it was the Pritchard who came out on top and followed in the footsteps of his father with victory at Epynt:

“Wow, what can I say. I feel very privileged to have a victory over these famous stages. I’ve watched so many races up here and witnessed my Dad also take top spot so to be able to do the same is a wonderful feeling. “Huge credit must go to the marshalls who braved those terrible conditions on Sunday – without them, there would have been no event to win. Also, I want to thank Phil Clarke for another faultless job on the notes, he was a huge factor in us taking top spot. “It was amazing to be racing alongside my Dad and I’m proud of his third place finish in the Modern Stages.”

Pritchard was fastest on four of the five stages and showed excellent composure and speed to take the rally by 27 seconds from second placed Evans. With a first place finish, Pritchard is now on top of the pile in the British Historic Rally Championship:

“I’m delighted to be top at the moment and I wouldn’t be in such a good position if it wasn’t for all the work and support I have from Phil, the team around me, my family and sponsors. “I will be doing everything I can to try and stay there until the end of the season but nothing in rallying can be taken for granted so I need to keep my concentration and performances at the same level.”

Jason’s father Eian finished an impressive 3rd in the Modern Stages, a great feat and a brilliant final position – especially with over 75 cars entered in the event.

The 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship continues in the Isle of Man with rounds seven and eight taking place on the island, the competition starts on Thursday 17th September (evening) before two full days on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th.

PRITCHARD HEADS TO ROUND FIVE IN HIGH SPIRITS

Jason Pritchard will be looking to build on his impressive performances so far in the 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship this weekend as round five heads to the Harry Flatters stages, based in Brecon over the famous Epynt Military ground.

Pritchard finished second during the fourth round of the Championship over the Seven Valley stages. The Welshman also impressed out in Sweden at the end of June, finishing 9th overal and first in class whilst making his debut in the Midnight Sun Rally:

“Sweden was such a fantastic experience and I loved rallying over there, to finish 9th overall and first in class was an achievement I’m proud of. I hope to take this form and the second place finish from the last round into the Harry Flatters stages and put in another good peformance at the end of the month.”

The Harry Flatters Stages will take place on Saturday 26th July and it’s the first tarmac round of the championships. Pritchard is hoping he can continue his fine form in the championship on the stages that he is already familiar with:

“I’m a member of the Brecon Motor Club so I’ve had the fortune of going round the stages already. The MK2 I had last year was tarmac spec but I struggled with the wrong gear ratio. “However I’m hopeful that what we learnt last year will help us this time round and allow us to be up there fighting at the front and to try and secure some more good points.

Even though he went round the stages last year, it’s an event that he usually watches his Father (Eian Pritchard) compete in and he supports him in the service:

“I haven’t competed much over Epynt as my Dad usually does the stages if we do them at all, I usually service for him as he helps me when I’m driving. “Having grown up watching many rallies here, I’ve seen a number of big crashes. It’s a place that you have to respect, if you don’t then it can quite easily catch you out. I have huge respect for anyone who competes up here as it is very high speed and a bit like a race track without the safety of run off areas.”

Pritchard is hoping that he can call upon his Father’s tips for competing on the stages, especially as he’s been victorious on a number of occasions over Epynt:

“There are a number of Epynt experts and they do all the events that run up here so they know the place very well, my Dad was one of them when he was younger and he still was up until a few years ago, however he’s had to step back recently to support me, which I’m incredibly grateful for. “He’s won on Epynt a number of times in a MK2 Escort so I will be asking him for a lot of tips and advice, hopefully I can follow in his footsteps and win this round of the Championship.”

The 2015 Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship continues in Neath Valley and round six is on Saturday 15th August.

PRITCHARD HEADS OUT TO SWEDEN FOR THE MIDNIGHT SUN RALLY

Jason Pritchard will be competing in the Midnight Sun Rally for the first time this weekend (June 24th – 27th) as he heads out to Sweden for the famous rally.

The competition is spread out over three days with the start of the first part on Wednesday morning and the finish on Saturday afternoon, Pritchard was given the opportunity as a father and son combination who usually compete aren’t able to this time round:

“I’ve been very fortunate to have been asked to compete in the Midnight Sun Rally as the son who usually competes with his father can’t get behind the wheel this year as his partner is expecting a baby during the week of the rally. “We will be driving a MK2 Escort and it’s an honour to be asked and it’s an honour to be competing in such a famous rally.”

First held in 1950, it’s a fascinating spectacle as you don’t have any pacenotes for the rally and there are no maps for the co-driver to read.

The 26-year-old from Builth Wales can’t wait to experience it first hand and hopes to put in a good performance:

“It will be my first time competing in Sweden but also my first time competing in a totally blind rally. It’s hugely popular in Sweden with tens of thousands of people watching the three day event – it’s a great opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get out there.”
