  • PRITCHARD HEADS TO NORTH WALES IN CONFIDENT MOOD 30/03/2017

Defending champion Jason Pritchard heads to the next round of the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship in a confident mood after a second place finish in the opening round of the Championship he won for the second time last season.

Pritchard and co-driver Phil Clarke finished with vital championship points after a second place finish over the Red Kite Stages and the first round of the Championship in March.

The competition’s second stage will be held in Dolgellau, North Wales this Saturday (1st April) and the 28-year-old from Builth Wells is aiming to kick start his championship defence with a repeat of the victory he achieved on the same stages this time last year.

Pritchard will be setting off from Dolgellau on Saturday morning and heading out to complete the first few stages in the morning before returning for a quick service in Dolgellau and then heading back out for the final three frantic stages.

Rally North Wales is a hugely popular event in the motorsport diary and this year will be no different, Pritchard can’t wait to take to the forests on Saturday:

“I know the pace will be fast this weekend so I can’t afford to relax but my overall aim this year is to make sure I finish each event with points on the board, like everyone involved this year, we know this Championship is a long haul and anything can happen. “It was crucial that I finished the last round to get some points on the board and I was delighted to secure second position and start the Championship well. I was running first on the road so was losing time clearing the gravel and I overshot on the very first corner which knocked me slightly. “However I’m heading to North Wales in a very confident mood and mindsight, I finished in top-spot on these stages last season and I will be taking that performance and feeling into Saturday.”

Pritchard will be driving the Ford Escort MK2 again, the same car he won the Championship in last season, and like last season he will be joined by Phil Clarke as co-driver:

“I’m looking forward to getting back on these stages with Phil again as I really enjoyed being here last season and there are some classic stages for us to tackle in North Wales, it’s been a few weeks since the last event and that was the last time I sat in the car so I hope we can get into a good rhythm from the very first corner and set a fast pace from the start. “I’d like to thank my sponsors North Road Garage Builth Wells, Viking Motorsport, Sherwood Engines and Pirelli for their continued support.”
