  • PRITCHARD HEADS OUT TO ISLE OF MAN IN FIRST HISTORIC OUTING ON ISLAND 15/09/2015

Jason Pritchard is competing in the Isle of Man this weekend (17th – 19th September) as the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship heads out to the island for rounds six and seven of the Championship.

The Welshman hopes to continue occupying top spot after his excellent victory on the Eypnt stages last time out. Pritchard who has tasted success out in the Isle of Man on two occasions in the National Rally, will be hoping he can do the same when driving in his Historic Ford MK2 Escort for the first time on the island.

The 27-year-old from Builth Wells who will be joined by co-driver Phil Clarke is looking forward to a different test this time round, Pritchard last competed on these rally stages in 2010 in the British Rally Championship:

“I can’t wait to get back out to the Isle of Man to compete, it’s such a fantastic place to race and the conditions and crowds are always excellent. I’ve had some recent success out there in the National Rally and it’s going to feel very different competing with the Historic car for the first time on these stages. “It’s a long rally, with 180 stage miles and when you consider most championship rounds are just 45 miles, you can see the difference! It’s also a double scoring round, so I will need a good pace from the start and my overall aim is to finish both parts cleanly and with some good points on the board to try and hold onto top spot.”

There will be two opportunities to score points over the weekend, on the Friday at midday the first Championship points will be awarded and then the second points of the Championship will be awarded across the second half of the rally.

Pritchard knows how difficult it can be to compete on the Isle of Man and is hopeful that his experience on the island will put him in a strong position ahead of a very tricky few days of rallying:

“Competing in the Isle of Man is always difficult as the weather changes so frequently, so it automatically impacts your tyre choice across the weekend. I’ve been seeded car 1, which is a great honour but also brings with it an added pressure as the other crews will be waiting to see the tyres that we run with. “I’m really looking forward to the night stages as they always make the rally that little bit more exciting and gives you even more to think about! “The weekend will be a different challenge for me as I’m leading the championship and have a huge desire and drive to stay there. I’ll be approaching it like any other rally but need to remember that this is a very long event and I must drive with my head from start to finish.“

The next round of Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship will be Rally Yorkshire and will based in Pickering over the weekend of the 25th and 26th September.
