Jason Pritchard will be competing in the Midnight Sun Rally for the first time this weekend (June 24th – 27th) as he heads out to Sweden for the famous rally.
The competition is spread out over three days with the start of the first part on Wednesday morning and the finish on Saturday afternoon, Pritchard was given the opportunity as a father and son combination who usually compete aren’t able to this time round:
“I’ve been very fortunate to have been asked to compete in the Midnight Sun Rally as the son who usually competes with his father can’t get behind the wheel this year as his partner is expecting a baby during the week of the rally. “We will be driving a MK2 Escort and it’s an honour to be asked and it’s an honour to be competing in such a famous rally.”
First held in 1950, it’s a fascinating spectacle as you don’t have any pacenotes for the rally and there are no maps for the co-driver to read.
The 26-year-old from Builth Wales can’t wait to experience it first hand and hopes to put in a good performance:
“It will be my first time competing in Sweden but also my first time competing in a totally blind rally. It’s hugely popular in Sweden with tens of thousands of people watching the three day event – it’s a great opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get out there.”
